CMC Networks, 30 April 2020, Johannesburg. MANRS (Mutually Agreed Norms for Routing Security) has admitted CMC Networks, Africa and the Middle East’s premiere data network provider, as a participant of their global routing security initiative.

MANRS encourages ISPs to implement well-established industry best practices and technological solutions that address the most common Internet routing problems, including incorrect routing information, traffic with spoofed source IP addresses, and coordination and collaboration between networks. Joining MANRS means joining a community of security-minded network operators committed to making the global routing infrastructure more robust and secure. The more network operators apply MANRS actions, the fewer the incidents, from external routing threats.

Geoff Dornan, CTO for CMC Networks comments “The above outlines the ethos of what MANRS stands for and how they have provided the conduit to enable ISP’s globally to align their efforts in providing an Internet service that can support the requirements of today’s users and future requirements in a secure, robust and reliable manner.”

Dornan continues: “As enterprises are executing their digital transformation strategies for enhanced operational, cost and service optimization including cloud adoption, coupled with a move from traditional connectivity access mediums such as MPLS/Ethernet to DIA and Broadband access mediums, the need for a robust, reliable, and secure Internet service is more prevalent than ever before. Initiatives like MANRS drive the behaviour and standards approach needed for this 1st line of defence.” Their 4 key actions are:

• 1: Prevent propagation of incorrect routing information (Filtering)
• 2: Prevent traffic with spoofed source IP addresses
• 3: Facilitate global operational communication and coordination
• 4: Facilitate routing information on a global scale

“Looking at the MANRS Observatory one can see the positive impact the actions have brought to the industry and advanced the case for wider appreciation and potential adoption of the principles,” commented Marisa Trisolino, CEO of CMC Networks. “We are proud to be part of the MANRS community and deliver on the promise to our customers to provide safe, reliable infrastructure with the best security measures.”
